The old ladders were iron, painted many times over. Where the paint held, the metal was sound. Where it had chipped, salt water had done the rest.
The new ones are hardwood treads on stainless steel rails, fixed so that each part can be replaced on its own.
We kept one of the old iron rungs. It will hang in the changing room.
